PICTURE: In this picture, it depicts a skull of the black turtle. This kind of turtle is on the brink of extinction. Not many are still alive.
SUMMARY: The issue of extinction of rare animals has been a great problem. From natural extinction, to poachers and hunters, trying to make a profit. To this day the black turtle has nearly been extinct and is close to complete extinction of its species. A special project has been started to help save this species. A photography project that will show and get the word out there about these turtles. It is a great thing, that will hopefully raise lots of money. Their main goal is to show a relationship between biology, art, science, and storytelling. It will be presented to teach about tradition, folklore, corrupt officials, and poor fishermen, illegal pollution, and survival. They will also spread the word through the Internet, podcast, lectures, and interviews. Hopefully, it will reach their targets fundraisers, legislation, and editorials. Their success depends on how other people will try to save this precious, rare species.
OPINION/REFLECTION: When I read about the black turtles in this article, I had no idea what they were. As expected, this rare species is not well known. The media is not well known for telling us about species that are endangered. I hope that this doesn't end like other endangered species. Completely gone. I do not think I can do anything from my situation, but hopefully others can.
QUESTIONS:
1.Why do I not hear more about this, media, etc.?
2. What can I/you do?

ReplyDeleteWow! I have never heard about the black turtle, and I didn't even know it was close to extinction. I hate when I hear about animals that are endangered, or close to extinct. Someone has to do something! Luckily, for this turtle they are trying to get the word out about it by doing this photography project! I think that is a good idea because people can probably see how these turtles need help. I hope they raise a lot of money for these poor turtles, and something can be done to save them, and they will never become extinct!

I couldn't find many website on the black turtle. That shows that they need to be more talked about and read about so something can be done to help. This website I found just talks about the black sea turtle and it's characteristics and how it's endangered. Hopefully others can find a way to help this turtle so it doesn't become extinct!
Hey guys! Wow, i haven't even heard of the black turtle before reading this article. It's crazy how many animals in the world are either endangered, or in the process of being extinct right now. These black turtles clearly need help. I think that this photography project is a great way to help them. This project could raise SO much money to help protect them for a long time! I hope they reach their goal with the donations so they can save the black turtles!

I found this video which has the founder of the project, and he explains his story to everyone and tell them what it takes to save these turtles. Hopefully this helps if anyone wants to learn some more about it!

ReplyDeleteI honestly have never even heard of the Black Turtle before reading this article. The only turtle I have ever heard of was the Green sea turtle. It is very sad how such an amazing species is critically endangered almost to the point of extinction! These turtles really need help. This photography project, in my opinion is a great idea! I really hope that they reach their $11,000 goal for this project. Even though I can't really help this situation, I hope that others can!

This website shows some information about the black turtle. It shows how sometimes they can be mistaken for green turtles. It also has some interesting facts about its characteristics and its endangerment! I thought it was pretty cool.

ReplyDeleteOpinion/Reflection: I am very sad to see these turtles on the verge of extinction. They are such precious animals and are really special. The black turtles are especially rare, but I don't want to see any animal go at all. I know turtles have been close to extinction for a while, so it is good to see a program to help them be created. I also know that baby turtles are usually eaten by seagulls when they are about to go into the ocean. That might be contributing to their extinction. I have a dog and I absolutely love her, so i would be devastated if dogs went extinct. I also love turtles, so I'm very sad to see them almost extinct. At the same time I am also happy for the turtles because there is a program that can help them get off the endangered species list.
Question Answer #2: the way we can help the black turtles is by contributing to the program. If we help the program, then we are helping the turtles.
